Just spent 2 nights in a Standard Double Room at Zagakukan. Loved the cozy design, huge comfy bed, and that little birthday gift surprise! Though the view wasn’t great, we were hardly in the room. Would totally come back!

i had such high expectations for my stay, but the lack of friendly staff and a general bathroom before check-in really put a damper on things. also, why no complimentary gestures for the inconvenience? it’s not like i’m just anyone. i almost considered a good review, but just couldn’t, it was that disappointing.

My stay was delightful, highlighted by the spacious room and the luxurious private rooftop onsen—truly a soothing experience, especially under the stars. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the hotel’s location was picturesque, surrounded by beautiful greenery.
No available breakfast.

Unexpected culinary delights await
The Superior Twin Room was modern and clean. The breakfast options were limited, but the sushi dinner was a delightful surprise, adding a unique twist to the stay.
Accessibility was an issue. a lengthy 30-step staircase to the lobby and no English-speaking staff made check-in challenging. The absence of a public onsen was disappointing since I hoped to relax there.

Check-in time at 5 PM is a hassle after a long journey. you can't just crash in your room before heading out. The onsen experience fell flat with overly hot water and hygiene concerns like green algae, and the rooftop area felt neglected—it’s not as appealing as the promotional photos. Plus, the windows in the Standard Double Room were opaque, leaving you with no view to enjoy.

It was just a fine choice for a lightning stop in Hakone, great for the money. The room was cozy, and I appreciated the cleanliness and tidiness throughout the hotel. Pack an umbrella for the walk to the station, as the weather can change quickly.
